My non-stop listening to the audio from the album ' Veer Zaara' may be the reason why I am so much in love with all its songs. I already know the lyrics of every song, know when Lata has to sing her part, and when a pause is taken by the Tabla folks. And as i type this with headphones on, I am discovering that I also know the exaxct timing of that sad violin in the 'parting' number.
For the
Bollywood-ignorant, Yash Chopra just released the music of his forthcoming directorial venture , Veer Zaara with music by the Late Madan Mohan. In true YashRaj tradition, Lata Mangeshkar is the only female vocalist on the entire album. Check the film's
production website for all the dough.
Im not going to review the album's music here, its better done
elsewhere by other talented souls, but something that a friend commented when he saw me mad and passionate about what he thinks is 'just another blockbuster hindi film', makes me wonder: Am I really that smitten by the idea of a Diwali release of a Yashraj film with excellent music and of course
ShahRukh in the lead?
Well the simple answer is a resounding YES. In this blog I don't even want to go into reasons for my craze (of course there's no scientific basis to my amour, so do not bother breaking it down too intelligently). The very prospect of a combination of my favorite lead actor today in Hindi films with outstanding music and the loose knowledge of the plot of the film gets me all excited and I just cannot wait for Nov 12 (oh!, and I also hope we would have a new US President on that date) for the release of the film. It isn't as if Indians are to land on the Moon or me preparing for a date with the heavenly Amanda Peet, but relatively speaking I AM definitely counting down to the screening of this motion picture.
As I minutely listen to the lyrics of each of the 11 songs on the album, I can actually picturise (visualise?) the lead performers doing their thing: whether it is SRK in a black smart top or Zinta in classic Yash tradition waving the pallu of her white saree in the pleasant breeze of a Swiss meadow, or a Bachan (yea, the king of them all) doing a patriotic number. Love, romance and mush is definitely the theme, and Yash is the master when it comes to them.
Speaking about mush, a few days ago I met a woman for about 3 minutes total, and oh what an effect this music has had on my week this far: I play the album over and over and i go weak in my knees about this person who probably doesnt even recollect my name by now :(
Its of resemblance to the 'Maya' of Dil to Pagal Hai. SRK always had some vision (however vague one may judge it to be) about her...woh aisi hai..woh waisi hai...he never actually met her for a long while before Madhuri came along and embodied the character .But there's a small increment in my case: in the current situation, I have seen the 'Maya' and thus have a face to put to the character. The blog-worthy part is obviously the role played by the album's music in this 'construction' of my 'Kiran' (or Chandni or maya or .....).
A 'one-sided crush' ( i picked that term from common usage by local friends) is what I am classifying it as. But im just amazed by the synergetic effect of the music on me when I have Madame X in my mind. It goes without saying that the first three days of this week have not been the most productive workwise, but I have caught myself practically transporting myself to the sets of the movie and actually directing the scenes just the way Yash would do it. But then the wow thoughts about Ms. ***** serve as a smiling reminder that i need to be back here and share the rich melancholy and intense romance of the album with her. Holding her hands and watching clouds gather during a thunderstorm with the album's music ALWAYS playing is my idea of a perfect first date, right now. (ok, before it gets too sappy, i should move on to the next para)
My compulsiveness to keep rattling on and on MUST be cut short so I halt here by saying that the 11 songs of the movie are nothing short of an anthem for me now. If you run into me humming ' kinna sona des hai mera' blindly assume it must be from Veer Zaara. Lata-Ji, you sure still can belt out numbers in that oh-so-unique mood, thats become a copyright of a Yash Chopra film.
And Ms. ***** if you too would appreciate Jagjit Singh and Lata rendering a masterpiece of a ballad, I would not ask for more, until the 12th of November atleast.
Fall is in the air, somebody said, it is a time to fall in love , with somebody you have always wanted to, somebody you have known for long. For me i just want to sing " ....kyu hawaa aaj yu gaa rahi hai ....mere dil bata aaj hona hai kya...."
